Lingering Comfort No. I
Among the lingering impressions of past states,
Fragments of vulnerability accumulate in comfort.
The concept of our personal and private spaces compels me to reflect on who we let in, what we share with the world, and what we keep to ourselves. It is the human concern of privacy, intimacy, and boundaries– to hide away yet yearn to be seen, to long for sanctuary from the world and yet long to be in it, to protect oneself yet still be vulnerable.
One’s private space is a comfort zone where one can hide in one's inner world. It is the physical and psychological state of comfort where one is most vulnerable, and a place one keeps to oneself or shares with those closest. I intend to portray this vulnerability and freedom by using the body to illustrate the gestures of one’s comfort in their familiar and private space. Capturing one’s interior space through the physical body then redefines the boundaries that come with it. However, this is not to protect or place these boundaries but to share in their sanctity and sacredness.

Lingering Comfort No. II
A reiteration of the first series.
To capture this state–this gentleness and sensitivity–I painted on ceramic tiles which offer a cold hard surface in contrast. Ceramic tiles are typically associated with bathrooms or comfort rooms; a place of privacy and solitude. It is the state of being free from public attention and, as such, serves the function of ‘being in one’s safe space.’ These tiles have been collected from my old house, which showed vulnerable conditions, rather than being made because the very notion of tiles itself serves the function of being in one's safe space.

Lingering Echoes
"Lingering Echoes No. I" unravels the intricate relationship between individuals and the spaces they occupy, emphasizing our existence not within the confines of a singular realm but within a spectrum of spaces that intricately mold and reflect our identities. It poses a poignant question: do we shape the spaces we belong to, or are we shaped by the spaces created for us?
Inviting introspection, "Lingering Echos No. I" prompts viewers to contemplate the idea that our sense of belonging is not limited to a single space but transcends geographical, cultural, and societal confines. This work celebrates the intricate beauty and complexity of our interconnectedness - our simultaneous rootedness in specific spaces and the boundless connection to a larger, shared existence.

... and again
Boundaries are built to protect and enforce, divide and separate. They are walls drawn up but wearing out and falling apart, being lived through and experienced. It is a constant cycle to build and break, to rebuild and tear down.
What fragile, intricate barricades have we emplaced and broken to protect our home—our sanctums and souls’ refuge?
