There are moments when reality seems distant— when we float in our own worlds, estranged from our own bodies. And when the distance gets too far, we will be trapped in our mind's solitude, frozen, while we drift from our melting reality.

In the first few months as an international student in Singapore, I felt a sense of longing and homesickness. It was a new experience to live alone in another country. To pay homage to this feeling, I used symbolisms of my family and school in the Philippines on floating islands.

I used a mix of paper mache, acrylic paint, and oil pastel to create the figure reaching out to the floating islands. It was to create a rock-like texture as though it was frozen in time, stuck in a state of longing for the familiar.
